Moodle uses jargon words that you may be familiar with from other, non-Moodle contexts. Within Moodle, These words have specific (and potentially different) meanings.
In this article, I will focus on the commonly used terms on Moodle and try to make your life a bit simpler.
Course
A course is the basic learning area on Moodle where the content to be taught is available in a proper form. Content is placed in a systematic manner and authored efficiently to ensure the knowledge is shared successfully to the learners who are going through it.
A category is a group of functionalities with a common use in Moodle.It can be a grouping of courses by certain criteria like courses, questions. roles and entries on Moodle.
An activity can be any task through which learners can interact with other learners or the administrator. Moodle provides a variety of activities types of tools which can be used in a course.

Resource
Resources are items that can be used to support learning, such as a file or a link. A standard Moodle comes with 6 resource types that can be added to a course.

Blocks
Blocks are items which can be added to the left or right on a course’s home page. There are so many different blocks that can be added to a course, or pages within a course.

Plugin
The plugin is a component which can add functionality to your Moodle. Some standard Moodle plugins need to be turned on by Moodle Administrator. Plugins can either be downloaded for free or bought from an online store.

Filter
Filters are helpful when you create a course in Moodle. When turned on, these filters convert or allow specific conversions of text to other formats like emoticons, hyperlinks and mathematical symbols.

Role
A role refers to what a user is allowed to do or not do on Moodle. Mainly there are roles of an administrator and a learner. Depending on the role, set of permissions can be assigned to specific users in specific contexts.

SCORM
Shareable Content Object Reference Model (SCORM)is a package which makes course content compatible with all platforms. If your LMS is SCORM compliant then you can run any SCORM package on it. If you’re working with Moodle- you need not fret because Moodle is already compliant with it.
