In the corporate world, every training is an investment for any organisation.

Be it long term or short term there is always a planned expectation for a good and viable return to the organization.

With more companies shifting to elearning from classroom training to train their employees, organisations are now able to save more in terms of cost, time and efforts, but it’s a hard truth that every elearning modules doesn’t simply guarantee  the intended results and sometimes corrective actions are necessary at many stages which are planned after a thorough analysis or in other words the organisation have to measure the effectiveness of the elearning courses launched.

Here in this blog, I have listed down 5 tips to measure the effectiveness of an elearning course on your employees.

1.Assessments:

Be it a classroom training or an elearning course, assessments are the commonly used medium to measure the effectiveness of any training program. Learners can be evaluated with a quiz in form of multiple choice questions etc, game-based quiz etc. Prefer to have a comprehensive assessment of the learned topics at the end of the course. .Here the organization can a cut off mark to be scored by the learners to pass the assessment and if not scored well, ask them to repeat the course.

2.Questionnaire

A properly structured questionnaire inviting genuine feedback from the learners becomes always handy to understand the effectiveness of an elearning course on employees.Learners can answer the questionnaire once they finish attending the elearning modules. The Questionnaire can be in Online or offline format.

3.Test them in a real and practical environment

What is learned need to be applied or delivered by the learner. For example in a scenario-based elearning approach in a manufacturing firm, the learner might have understood and imparted the learning process but here the learner requires to be tested out to perform in a real environment. This can evaluate the effectiveness of the course as managers or supervisors can closely watch the progress and understand if the learners are able to deliver what he or she has learned.

4. Calculating ROI

Return on Investment is once again a very common term in the business world. As said earlier, every investment is made with an expected rate of return and calculating ROI for an elearning program is not a big headache for the management.
Include all the expenses incurred in the implementation of the elearning program and compare it with the benefits received.
The benefits may be in the form of increased productivity, reduction in the cost of production and time, reduction in employee iteration rate etc.
Here it will be always good to keep in mind the long-term benefits too like lesser recurring costs etc.

5.Tracking the course

Through LMS(learning management system) one can generate various reports as required. Reports can be for course overview, participation report, Quiz/Assessment report, Log report etc.  The report helps to track the weakness and strengths in a real time of learners through which the effectiveness of the elearning program is measured and also taking corrective actions can be taken if needed.

These are some of the very commonly used tips to check what you intended to teach your employees through eLearning is actually learned by them and see how they fare.
