The evolution of modern technology over evolved to a greater extent. Even an average computer user can develop E-learning modules. This however might not work in all the cases as just presenting a bunch of slides may not work for the learners or your audience. The one-size-fits-all mantra does not work when it comes to E-learning modules. Learners expects more engaging modules which will help them in clearing the concepts and overall get the best learning experience. There is no questions to be asked when we talk about the efficiency and effectiveness of an E-learning module but the E-learning professionals should not make the module complex as it can easily demotivate the learners and might turn out to be very less effective as per the expectation.
Let us now look at few key elements of an E-learning course:
Provide an easy access to the module: One of the most important points or features that an E-learning developers should keep in mind is ensuring that the learners get an easy access for the module. Cross checking the published links, menus or other factors and providing all the flexibility required such as selecting the desired scenarios or skipping the session if already watched or rewinding the previous slide if not understood.
Include multimedia files: As per the information available on the web every time you ask for a tip to create an effective E-learning module most of the time you will see praises heaping for the modules comprising attractive videos and graphics. It is often said that a picture is worth a thousand words as normal PPT with normal text is getting boring. Multimedia is a great way to bring home your key points in an engaging manner and it will definitely act as a motivating booster for the younger audience.
Make it interactive: Learning is always fun when you have all the fun elements attached to it. A module is only as good as till the learners are able to connect themselves with the subject. Module with longer duration and less interaction gets boring after a particular time, so to overcome such instances include fun elements such as games and quizzes after the end of every section. This will motivate the learners in active participation and successful completion of the module.
Conduct test and assessments: As discussed in the previous point continuous viewing of slides might get boring in the beginning itself. To keep the learners intact and engaged with the module it is recommended to conduct a test and assessments to keep a track on whether the module is turning out to be as effective as expected.
Track the progress level of your learners: It is very important for an organization to keep a track on whether their employees or learners are being able to catch up with the pace or how well they are able to progress with the module. This is indeed one of the most important elements for an E-learning module as it helps the organization in finding out whether the strategy adopted to implement E-learning is really working out for the employees and at the same time they can bring in changes if required.
I am sure there will be much more elements for E-learning than what I have listed. However, with the above mentioned points I have attempted to give you the basics outline on certain elements to be considered for an E-learning module.
